The SharpEdge Guild story begins with wood and patience.
Founded in 2018 by two furniture restorers in Northern California, SharpEdge Guild grew from a single garage workshop into a global community teaching the craft of wood painting. Our founders noticed that most hobbyists stopped after one failed project because they lacked proper technique, safety habits, and confidence. We built a place where every student learns step-by-step, practices safely, and finishes beautiful pieces they actually keep.
Our mission
We exist to make expert-level wood finishing accessible. Every student who joins receives clear instruction, high-quality materials lists, and direct feedback. We measure success by the number of people who complete projects and teach others in turn.
Our method
Lessons blend short video tutorials, downloadable planning sheets, live group calls, and personal critique. Safety is never negotiable — every course begins with ventilation, PPE selection, and proper disposal protocols.
Meet the founding team
Fifteen years restoring museum-grade furniture. Elena designs every primer and topcoat curriculum, ensuring students master grain raising and color matching before moving to advanced finishes.
Former hazardous materials specialist. Marcus built our entire safety protocol and hosts weekly live troubleshooting sessions open to all enrolled members.
Former industrial designer who crafts the sequence of lessons. She also manages the Fallows mentorship program pairing experienced alumni with newcomers.
Our core values
Proper ventilation and PPE are taught before any brush touches wood.
We celebrate careful sanding and correct drying times, not fast finishes.
Graduates are encouraged to lead workshops for their local peers.
We teach low-VOC products and responsible waste handling in every course.
